LU to confer doctorate on nuclear scientist

Lucknow: The Lucknow University (LU) will confer a doctorate degree on eminent nuclear scientist and former chairman of Atomic Energy Commission of India Anil Kakodkar at its convocation in February, an official said on Thursday.

"The decision to award Doctorate of Science (Honoris Causa) has been taken by members of the varsity's executive council," said LU proctor A.N. Singh.

"Kakodkar will also be the chief guest for the ceremonial function and deliver the convocation address," he added.

According to the varsity officials, the convocation ceremony is expected to take place on February 3, 2010.

Before being associated with India's nuclear programme, Kakodkar was the director of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Trombay 1996-2000. He has also received the Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian honour.
