Eight Indian students have been declared as winners of the British Council IELTS Scholarship Award 2013

Eight Indian students have been declared as winners of the British Council IELTS Scholarship Award 2013 and will receive Rs 3 lakh each towards the cost of tuition fees as part of the scholarship a statement issued by the British Council said.

Five of the winners will pursue full-time post-graduate programmes in the United Kingdom and three others will study in Australia, Canada and the United States of America.

Janvi Thaker from Kolkata , Avrina Jos Joslin Thambi from Viluppuram, Gurjot Singh Garcha from Ludhiana, Sadia Zafar from Navi Mumbai, Shraddha Kaur from Gurgaon, Pramita Roy from Kolkata and Gowri Rastogi from Bangalore were declared winners.

Complimenting the award winning Indian students, Sarah Deverall, director, exams, British Council India, said that the council was happy that their tests scores were fast becoming the global benchmark in evaluating students' proficiency in IELTS, which is designed to evaluate the ability to communicate in English for education, immigration and professional accreditation worldwide.

IELTS is now being accepted by more than 8,000 educational institutions, employers, professional associations and governments in 135 countries around the world - including over 3,000 institutions and programs in the USA as a measure of English language proficiency.
