AP HC issues notices to government and authorities concerned to review admission pattern in engineering colleges

Justice L Narsimha Reddy of the AP High Court issued notices to the government and authorities concerned seeking review of the admission pattern in engineering colleges in the state.

In a writ petition filed by students and the Telangana Professional Colleges Managements' Association, it is contended that there is a huge change in the circumstances from when the need for entrance examinations were felt to a scenario where as many as 2.4 lakh engineering seats are on offer in the convener's quota for 2.07 lakh students qualified in the Eamcet in 2012.

"Even after all the qualified students secure admissions, about 33,000 seats will be left vacant in the convener's quota this year. There are another 1,34,446 seats available in the management quota (30% seats), of which over one lakh seats may not find any takers. An estimated 1.5 lakh seats remained vacant after the conclusion of the counselling for the academic year 2012-2013", the petitioners contended. It is said that in the changed scenario continuing with the same selection process is untenable.
