The education sector in Arunachal Pradesh today achieved another milestone with the laying of the foundation stone for the first technical and medical university at picturesque Apatani Plateau in lower Subansiri district.

"The commitment of my government to provide higher education to the people has been fulfilled," Chief Minister Nabam Tuki who laid the foundation stone for the private Indira Gandhi Technological and Medical Science University, said.

Citing criticism that Arunachal was the only state without a single technical and medical college, he said it was the beginning of a new era which would bring Arunachal at par with other developed states.

The university, which has constructed several blocks already, would start a few courses like nano technology, laboratory technician, Radiology, IT Park and physiotherapy from January next year.

To be constructed on 150 hectare at Gano village by Delhi-based World Institute of Building Programme, the university would offer both technical and medical courses," said local MLA Padi Richo of the project which was his dream for the past eleven years.
