British Council has announced the launch of the UK Scholarships : India 2016

ukscholarThe British Council has announced the launch of the GREAT Britain Scholarships – India 2016 worth approximately 150 million rupees as part of the ‘GREAT BRITAIN' campaign ("GREAT").

Aimed at aspirants who wish to know more about education opportunities in the UK, the British Council will host Education UK Exhibition in Chennai on Saturday, 06 February 2016 between 2.00 p.m. and 7.00 p.m. at Taj Coromandel. Visitors to the one-day exhibition in Chennai will get a unique opportunity to directly talk to representatives from 64 UK universities and get all their questions answered on course choices, visas, applications, scholarships and more.

Moreover, students attending the exhibition will also benefit from on the spot psychometric tests and career seminars on specialised themes such as employment opportunities in a "Globalised Investment Industry", careers in management with a UK degree, as well as insightful sessions from experts on student visas and IELTS.

Most Indian students applying for a UK visa, get one. The UK in India hosts the largest Chevening country programme in the world with £2.6 million funding around 130 scholarships for future Indian leaders. And joint investment in UK-India research has grown from less than £1 million in 2008 to over £200 million."

In addition, Chevening is the British Government's flagship global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and partner organisations. The India programme is now world's largest with budget of £2.6 million budget for 2015-16.

Student satisfaction in the UK is high, with 92% of postgraduate students in the UK rating the quality of teaching positively. The UK is a world-leading research nation with researchers in the UK gaining more citations and usage per article, and writing more articles individually, than anywhere else in the world. UK universities and research institutions have produced 107 Nobel Prize winners.

The GREAT Britain Scholarships – India 2016

Student mobility is critical for cultural relations and bilateral ties. The British Council is working with partners across Government in the GREAT Campaign, promoting the UK as a preferred destination to study. The GREAT scholarships would entail:

· 291 scholarships will be on offer worth approximately 150 million rupees

· 45 UK institutions across England, Scotland Wales and Northern Ireland are participating in this programme

· A total of 59 under-graduate and 232 post-graduate scholarships will be provided in engineering, law, business, art & design, biosciences and IT across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
