Teachers Education - Course duration

In Tamil Nadu, the candidates, who want to take up teaching as their career have to study a 2 year course is education. The efforts are also in the mode to get a foreign recognition to B.Ed and M.Ed degree.

At this juncture, to begin with the Tamil Nadu Teacher Education University has prepared new syllabus for B.Ed and M.Ed as per the directions of National Council of Technical Education.

It is noted, that the southern states have accepted, NCTE’s extensive of one year B.Ed and 2 years in M.Ed.

Mr. M.Rajendran, the retired principal of Government Teacher Education college said, that the extension of period in the courses may be useful to improve the quality of education of teachers indirectly will be helpful to the students commonly. NCTE took this stand because of a write filed by a self financing college in Chennai.

This created concern to the self financial Institutions. Because the extension of periods may reduce the intake strength, the reason being fee like. The other problem is increasing the man power to cater the need for teaching for one more year.

G.Viswanathan, the Vice Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Teacher Education University anticipates more steps after this.

As such, there are 668 self financing colleges and 21 Government Colleges in the state. As on date, B.Ed, and M.Ed are one year program. If extended for one more year, the institutions should double the strength of teacher.

It is stressed that the student and Teacher need open access to the internet in their institution.

In Australia and Taiwan candidates can log in using than ID number to browse the net. In China a centralized system provides a uniform syllabus uniformly.
