Funding to Tamil Nadu Universities

The University Grants Commission (UGC) selected Anna University, Chennai and Bharthidasan University Trichy, for University with potential for Excellence ((UPE) status. Based on this universities well get Rs.75 crore funding for research and infrastructure development. The UGC vice chairman Prof.H.Devaraj said that 7 universities were to begin with short listed by UGC for their research and via for 75 crore funding. Base on the presentation done by 7 universities, the committee has selected Anna University-Chennai. Trichy,  for UPE status. These Universities have been asked to present a more detailed report about their through areas to UGC on March 5.

Prof M.Rajaram, The Vice chancellor of Anna University said,

We have expertise in several areas of technology, including water resources and unmanned aerial vehicles our university is involved in numerous society oriented research projects and this funding will not help us to enhance research but also will help us to create more research infrastructure.

The UGC has plans to review the function of 15 universities including university of Madras and Madurai Kamaraj University from Tamil Nadu.
