Music in syllabus - says Vice Chancellor

Professor M. Thirumalai, the Vice Chancellor of Tanjore Tamil University inaugurated the 65th programme of Tamil Music Association in Raja Annamalai Mandram, Chennai in Tamil Nadu.

He stressed the need and importance of Music and added that it is Music which intermingled with the Tamil Music.  He said the music in Tamil Nadu did not have factors to exist alone, but mixed with the lives of common people that is, the life and Music of common people become in separable.  It is music which cherished people whenever they became tired out of routine works.  Sangam literature reflects clearly this association of common life and music beyond doubt..

During the period of Sangam literature, Music was used as Machine to cure diseases.  Music has got the extrodinary nature to bring one’s mind to peace and calm.  He said a soul begins its life with music and ends the same life also with music.  He said a child hears the music in the form of “Thallattu” when it comes to this universe.  He also stated about the isai in the form of “Oppari” in the death places.  People does not bother to accept the movies even without dialogue but not with background music.  A visual seen gets life.  Only by the music and that’s why music pre dominates any arts.

He highlights the association of Education in Tamil and Tamil Isai and he stressed the need of introducing Music as a syllabus.
