Updated on: Thursday, August 07, 2014

BFSC is the course meant for Fisheries Science which is conducted by Tamil Nadu Fisheries University on Monday. 52 percent of 360 applicants are short listed for admission to thus course Even though the University has its Head quarters at Nagapattinam, the counseling is conducted at Fisheries College and Research Institute (FC & RI) at Thouthukudi because it has better infrastructures and facilities out of 360 short listed candidates only 188 came for counseling. 1672 applications were received by the University for 60 Seats in BFFSC. Most of the candidates FC & RI in Thouthukudi. The important factor here is, several of the reserved categories meant for sports, children of Ex-serviceman, physically challenged and students from fisheries vocational course in XII are vacant and their seats were filled by General category candidates.

The degree course in fisheries studies in job oriented and 100% placement is ensured in state and central Government sectors as well as private companies. It is observed, the reason for this kind of poor response is lack of awareness about BFSC course. According to the experts of this field. The 4 year fisheries degree course has more scope for research in the areas of fisheries microbiology, fisheries bio chemistry, fisheries resource management, medical treatment for aquatic animals, fisheries environment including oceanography, limnology, ecology, equate pollution and fishing technology like navigation and seamanship, fisheries economics etc. The course fee is simply Rs.10,000 per annum.
