The statistics says that 53, 863 candidates, that is about 60% who has joined in various Engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu are I generation Engineering candidates. More over 62.52% of the seats in civil Engineering in Tamil medium and 70.33% of seats in Mechanical Engineering in Tamil medium are still vacant. In 124 available seats of Marine Engineering only 2 seats are vacant. Prof. V. Rhymond Uthamraj, the secretary of Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions, said that out. 94,768 students in various private, Government and Government aided Engineering colleges, 53, 863 are I generation candidates. They works out 60% of the admitted candidates are from I generation category. The number of students joining in Engineering is first generation has started to come down from 81780 in 2012013 to 53.863 in 2014.15. Their shows the education status of the families is on the increase. The state government provides Rs.20,000/- as tuition fee waiver to get more first generation students. Now the demand from the 1st generation students is, to increase the waiver, because the private colleges has increased their fee structure.

As on date, 1,09,309 seats remain vacant in Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions this year. 94, 768 got admitted to various courses in 538 engineering colleges in the state. 23618 students have joined in Mechanical Engineering and 17637 joined in Electronics and communication engineering. It is proposed to organize counseling to fill up vacant seats in SC (Arunthathiyan) with SC students on 8 and the supplementary counseling for vacant seats also in the same day.

Now, the number of girls joining Tamil Nadu Engineering Agricultural University decreased while their male counterparts shown interest in farm related courses. Mr. S.Mahimairaj, the Chairman for Admission committee said that, against their expectation only 64.6% of girls have enrolled for UG farm courses. In fact 78.6% students joined in TNAU  girls in the last year.

Engineering Admission show a down ward trend while that of Agricultural Admission is increasing regards, the male candidates is concerned. Boys are interested to take up. B.sc (agriculture) courses, but the drop outs are also more and this percentage works out to be 20%.

Normally the students who have good cut off are migrating to Medical or Engineers side 199/200 is the highest cutoff for Agricultural Admissions. It was simply 196/200 in the previous year. Next to Agriculture the students prefer Horticulture.
