Drop in Number of students flying to United Kingdom

In 2013, the number of visa applications to the United Kingdom. Increased by 5 percent compared to the previous year. At the same time, there was a decrease of 25% now. The deputy High commissioner Bharat Joshi felt that this increase is due to the depreciation of rupee against the British pound. The other reason British Educational Institutions, were cracked down for improper registration. In a program the Deputy High commissioner added that there is a 10% of decrease only in Tamil Nadu while in India it is 20%. But visa in General visa applications purely because of business travel.

Now, it seems the students are visiting as tourists but not for long term study.

Mr. Tony Williams, the South India operations Manager, Visa services, British High Commission said that about 4 lacs visas were issued by the British High Commission in 2013. The commission has received 1,10,000 applications from South India and from Chennai only there were 66000 applications.
