Space Entrance Exams

The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology is the only University not only in India, but in the entire continent of Asia, that offers both an Undergraduate (B. Tech.) as well as a Post Graduate Course ( M.Tech.) in three areas of Space Science and Technology. These three are: Aerospace Engineering, Avionics and Physical Sciences.

Eligibility for ISAT

Generally conducted in the month of April, the ISAT Entrance Exam of the IIST requires candidates who have appeared for the Joint Entrance Exam (main) conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and qualify for the Joint Entrance Exam(Advanced) conducted by the IITs, with a minimum of at least 20% marks in aggregate and at least 5% marks in each of the three subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. There are of course, the usual concessions for candidates belonging to the OBC and SC/ST categories. The performance of the candidates in the entrance exam followed by counselling, which is conducted by the institute, is taken into account for admission.

Number of Seats

The total number of seats is 156, with 60 each for Aerospace Engineering and Avionics and 36 for Physical Sciences at the B.Tech level.

Centres

The ISAT admission test is conducted at Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Calicut, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cuttack, Dehradun, Delhi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai and Mumbai.

Rank List

The rank list for admission to IIST is based on 60% weightage of score in the Joint Entrance Exam JEE (Main) conducted by CBSE and 40% of normalized score in Class 12th or other qualifying examinations.

Course Contents

Aerospace Engineering: Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Aerodynamics, Flight Mechanics, Solid Mechanics and Material Science, Propulsion systems, Aerospace structures and Precision manufacturing processes for launch vehicles, aircraft and spacecraft.

Avionics: Electronics Electrical Engineering, Digital Electronics, VLSI, MEMS design, Communication and Computer systems with thrust on aerospace vehicle and satellite system, flight navigation systems, satellite communication, microwave and antenna engineering.

Physical Sciences: Foundation and advance level courses on Applied Mathematics, Classical and Modern Physics as well as courses in the areas of space science such as Astronomy and Astrophysics, Remote Sensing and Earth System Sciences.
