The establishment of Manipur Council of Higher Secondary Education was done in the year 1903. This was the time when the position of honorary inspector was given to an educationalist named Rev Pettigrew who was also a philanthropist. This was an education department that came under the department of education in Assam. This was the first time when a separate department of education was laid down. But, before that, there were no scope for a separate education department in the state. Manipur Council of Higher Secondary Education has got a good education history till today.

The first objective of Manipur Council of Higher Secondary Education is to take up a task of supervision in various institutes and schools. This could be possible only by a regular inspection procedure. Manipur Council of Higher Secondary Education also has a role in framing the syllabus of different levels of education. The authority also deals with selection of proper text book for the students in different standard of education.

Manipur Council of Higher Secondary Education is categorized into four entities. The divisions are known as department of education, department of adult education, department of education for University and higher studies and department for educational training and research.

The students can choose their first language from the list: Manipuri, Assamese, Hindi, Mizo, Nepali, Hmar, Paite, Bengali etc. Other than this, there is a subject known as Elementary Manipuri. Manipur Council of Higher Secondary Education does not allow the individuals to take this subject who has their mother tongue as Manipuri. Similarly, elementary Hindi is also a subject but is not for all those who have their mother tongue as Hindi. Manipur Council of Higher Secondary Education also has included the subjects like Additional English, Punjabi, and Alternative English etc. You must follow the terms written in the prospectus well before selecting the subject.
