Career Option in Nano Technology

Field description:

Nanotechnology which is sometimes shortened to "Nanotech", refers to a field whose theme is the control of matter on an atomic and molecular scale. Generally nanotechnology deals with structures of the size 100 nanometers or smaller, and involves developing materials or devices within that size. Nanotechnology is extremely diverse, ranging from novel extensions of conventional device physics, to completely new approaches based upon molecular self-assembly, to developing new materials with dimensions on the nanoscale, even to speculation on whether we can directly control matter on the atomic scale.

Education Guide:
Basic eligibility criteria:

For admissions to M. Tech. (Nanotechnology) course candidates must have a B.Tech. / B. E. degree preferably in Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering or Pharmaceutical Technology with a at least of 65% marks. For detailed eligibility information, students are asked to refer their particular University Admissions Application Instructions form. Admissions will be based on a rank obtained in Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET). For candidates who have not applied for TANCET, a separate evaluation test will be conducted by the University.

Course Duration:

The M.Tech in Nanotechnology is 2 year program with 4 semesters. The details of semester lists tend to change from various universities. The PhD Program in Nanotechnology is a flexible program which extends upto 5 years. Distance education option for the above two program is also provided in various universities in India and Abroad.

Approximate Education Expenses:

The Total expense for doing Bachelor's Nano Technology / Nano Science is as follows:

  • B.E Rs.75,000/ per year (approx) - (4 Years)

Bank loans and private loans can be easily arranged by directly contacting the banks through the college administrative.

Additional Courses:

There are, of course, a great many other subjects relevant to the development of nanotechnology. Students thus can enroll themselves for research options available within the campus or upgrade their knowledge on various modes of nano material production and the current trends in the market. The student can rest assured that there is no shortage of material to study relevant to this new field of research.

Institutions that Offers this Education:

Nanotechnology education is being offered by more and more universities around the world. The first program involving nanotechnology was offered by the University of Toronto's Engineering Science program, where nanotechnology could be taken as an option. Generally, nanotechnology education involves a multidisciplinary natural science education with courses in nanotechnology, physics, chemistry, math and molecular biology. Here is a list of universities offering nanotechnology education, and the degrees offered in nanotechnology, Bachelor of Science in Nanotechnology, Master of Science in Nanotechnology, and PhD in Nanotechnology.
