The VITEEE, which was conducted on April 21 for admission into deemed university Vellore Institute of Technology, follows the IITs with 48 students competing for one seat. The exam was taken by about 1.5 lakh students across India for admission to 3,100 seats. Art of Politics course for Women--IIM-B

The IIM Bangalore has launched a certificate course in political leadership for grooming aspiring women politicians. The programme is three months long and is called India-Women in Leadership programme by the Centre for Public Policy and it aims to equip aspiring women leaders with the requisite skills, knowledege and expertise in various aspects of governance. It helps to strengthen their ability to contest elections, lobby for women's rights and strengthen the overall network of politically active women across India. The first batch will start the classes on July 16. Women hold a mere 10% of seats in India's parliament. The course will help to correct the imbalance in the Indian Political landscapre. Centre for Social Research , an NGO working on gender empowerment, is an active partner in designing the course. The programme will include lectures, field visits, and also a week eachof intensive exposure visits in Delhi and Singapore.

BU plans to set up universities in Rwanda

BU (Bangalore University ) is exploring the option of establishing medical and traditional universities in Rwanda in collaboration with local education authorities. This was disclosed by BU vice chancellorN Prabhu Dev on Sundhay athe the 18th commemoration of the genocide in Rwanda. "We are looking at the possibilities of coming up with a medical university and a traditional university in Rwanda. The universitis will be an extension of BU," said Prabhu Dev.

Maths paper difficult --IIT-JEE

The IIT-JEE exam was conducted on Sunday.The three sections of the IIT-JEE exam were said to be moderately difficult. The maths section of the second paper was a bit lengthy and tricky. The questions in Physics in the second part rigorously tested the student's understanding of the concepts. As many as 5.06lakhs students appeared for the exam at 1,067 centers across the country for close to 9,590 seats in 15 IIT's of the county. This year the IITs have mandated that general category students get a minimum aggregate score of 35% and at least 10% in each of the individual sections for making it to the rank list. Similarly, OBC students must get at least 9% in individual sections and 31.5% in the overall score , for SC/ST's, the minimum to be bagges in each section is 5% and 17.5% must be the minimum aggregate to be on the rank list.

1st PU students to have CBSE syllabus

CBSE syllabus will be introduced in the science stream (physics, chemistry, maths, biology ) in the Pre-University Course (PUC) in Karnataka from teh next academic year. 1st PUC students (11th std) will have CBSE syllabus from 2012-13 and continue with it next year (12th std). Those in 2nd PUC will follow the state syllabus.

NO work after studying in UK

The UK government has made it that Indians coming to the UK for higher studies will no longer be able to stay on to work after completing their education. This regulation came into effect from Friday the 6th April. Applications from India for university courses in the UK starting in September 2012 have dropped, and the move is likely to trigger a further fall in their numbers. Several regulations are made to block bogus students from entering the UK and also dubious colleges have been barred from admitting foreign students. The earlier government allowed overseas students to apply for jobs for at least two years on payment of a visa fee of 500 pounds. This is being discontinued by the present government to reduce foreign workers due to the high unemployment that's currently prevailing in the UK.
